Kathleen Pugsley

Kathleen (Kate) Mereda Pugsley, 92 of Brownsburg and formerly Walkerton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, with family by her side. Kate was born on April 23, 1932, in Winamac, Indiana. She was the daughter of William DePoy and Dorothy Frye Blackford, who preceded her in death. Kate married Robert Clayton Pugsley Sr. on June 17, 1950, who preceded her in death on July 19, 2012. They moved into half of her parents’ West York duplex to 201 Hickory Street in Walkerton, which they would eventually triple in size, and live in for over 60 years. Together they created a loving home where their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren would be blessed with beautiful, lifelong memories to forever cherish. Kate worked full-time most of her life, while keeping an immaculate home, preparing the best meals and spending all her extra time caring for family and friends. She worked as a nurse’s aide and dental assistant for 25 years at Westville Correctional Facility. She finished her long career as a dental assistant working for Dr. Glenn Wisniewski in Walkerton. Kate was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Lapaz, she was a lifelong member of the Walkerton American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of Eastern Star. Surviving are children Kathy Pugsley of Pittsboro and Bobby (Dawn) Pugsley of Walkerton; eight grandchildren Troy, Keri, Trisha, Shannon, Stephen, Jimmy, Eve and Terry; nine great-grandchildren Noah, Julia, Emma, Jill, Kate, Alex, Logan, Rori, Riley and Brogie; and two great-great grandchildren Brynnleigh and Shepherd. She was also preceded in death by her son Bryan Pugsley, stepmom Doris Daniels DePoy, sister Phyllis Frazier, sister Deloris Watson, brother Perry (Buck) DePoy and grand-daughter Stephanie. Kate was hard-working and a caregiver to all, a friend to many, an avid walker, mushroom hunter and crocheter. She enjoyed playing games and seldom lost. She loved being with family more than anything and let it be known with her beautiful, radiant smile. Visitation will be Friday, April 11, 2025, from 11:00 to 1:00 (Eastern Time) at Rannells Funeral Home—Koontz Lake. The service will follow the visitation at 1:00, conducted by Kate’s nephew David Frazier. The burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, also known as Walkerton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Walkerton American Legion Post 189 Auxiliary.
