Josephine M. Wozniak

Josephine M. Wozniak, 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Miller's Merry Manor in Plymouth following a lengthy illness. Born on November 24, 1928, in Lyons, Illinois, Josephine was the daughter of the late George and Antionette (Jeffery) Gervase. Throughout her long life, she was known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She had a gift for making those around her feel welcome, and her warmth and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. On June 28, 1947, in Brookfield, Illinois, she married the love of her life, Carl Wozniak. Together they shared a wonderful marriage until Carl's passing in 1983. Side by side, they proudly owned and operated Hamlet Liquors for many years, becoming familiar faces in the community they loved. Following her retirement from the business, Josephine continued to stay active, working in several different roles, including many enjoyable years at the Hamlet Golf Course. A devoted member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Josephine lived her life with quiet faith and a servant's heart. She found great joy in spending time on the golf course, singing with the Red Hats, and participating in her weekly exercise group in Knox. Whether sharing a laugh with friends, encouraging others with her gentle smile, or simply enjoying life's simple pleasures, Josephine embraced each day with gratitude and grace. Above all else, her family was her greatest source of pride and happiness. She treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Josephine is lovingly survived by her son, David (Lusia) Wozniak; her granddaughters, Katherine (Patrick) Dunn and Lisa (John) Greer; and her four beloved great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Charlotte Dunn, and Penelope and Emma Greer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Carl; her brother, John Gervase; and her sister, Prudence Flexman. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. CDT on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. CDT Thursday at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Fletcher Cemetery, Hamlet. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to the Carl and Josephine Wozniak Scholarship Fund in care of the Northern Indiana Community Foundation. Though Josephine's gentle presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of kindness, generosity, faith, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
