GROVERTOWN-Ray N. Hancock, 70, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012 in his home. Ray was born December 12, 1941 in LaPorte, IN to Richard and Frances (Brooke) Hancock and lived his entire life in the area. Survivors include: one daughter, Valerie Andrews of Indianapolis; one son, Jamie Hancock of Indianapolis; four grandchildren; companion, Karen Hardesty-Slone of Hamlet; four step-children, Don, Laura, Lisa and Kaylee; one sister, Leann Johnson of Noblesville; his twin brother, Ron of Valparaiso and brother, Jerry of Hamlet. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Brian. Ray was a retired employee of NIPSCO after 45 years of faithful service. He was a member of the Hamlet United Methodist Church, the Hamlet Volunteer Fire Department, the Hamlet Lions Club and was a Relay for Life Survivor. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the Hamlet American Legion, he was active with 4-H his entire life and was a diehard O-D Basketball Fan. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. (Central Time) at Hamlet United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Fletcher Cemetery, Hamlet with military graveside services being conducted by the Hamlet American Legion. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel and Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Starke County Relay for Life or the Hamlet United Methodist Church.
