GROVERTOWN-Norman L. Brashere, 71, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013 at IU Health LaPorte Hospital after a brief illness. Norman was born October 12, 1941 to Elsie and Stella (Benton) Brashere and lived in Grovertown for 32 years, coming from Portage. On July 27, 1973 in Crown Point, he was married to Linda Zimmerle, who preceded him in death in 2009. He was also preceded in death by one son, Dwayne and two brothers, Louie and Earl Brashere. He is survived by one daughter, Norma Schubert of Plymouth; three grandchildren, Katelynn and Brandon Brashere and Eleanor Schubert and one sister, Joyce Aly. Norman was a former Heater at the 160" Plate Mill and was employed by Arcelormittal (Bethlehem Steel) Burns Harbor. He was a member of the United Steel workers Local #6787. He was an amateur radio operator and enjoyed spending time taking care of his farm. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. CST Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. Burial will follow at the Grovertown Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CST and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Grace Baptist Christian School in Plymouth.
