Jane McDowell Chapman

LaPorte - Jane McDowell Chapman, 91, formerly of Walkerton, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at IU Health LaPorte Hospital, LaPorte, IN. Jane was born May 2, 1923 in Chicago, IL to Jacob and Elizabeth (Morrey) Haas and lived in the Walkerton area most of her life. In 1943, she was married to Lee Chapman, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles Ferverda and Robert Haas; and one sister, Peggy Lummis. Survivors include one daughter, Laura (Doug) Brovold of Walkerton; one son, Kenny (Nancy) Chapman of Koontz Lake; one sister, Martha (Ed) Keeling of Walkerton; special friends, the family of Don Stillabower of LaPorte; grandchildren, Shawn (Sarah) Brovold, Jeff (Missy) Chapman and Ray (Jiff) Chapman; and great-grandchildren, Hailey and Aidan Chapman and Hannah and Raegan Brovold. Jane was a former teacher at Walkerton Elementary School and St. Patrick School in Walkerton. She was a member of the Walkerton American Legion Post #189 Auxiliary and held many offices; the Walkerton Business and Professional Women's Club; she was past-president of the Walkerton P.T.A.; a member of the O.E.S., Walkerton; and the Walkerton Historical Society. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) in Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. Friends may call Thursday at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET. Memorial contributions may be given to the Walkerton American Legion Post #189 Auxiliary.
