Helen M. McCarty

GROVERTOWN-Helen M. McCarty, 87, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013 at IU Health LaPorte Hospital, LaPorte, IN. Helen was born June 18, 1925 in Walkerton, IN to Walter and Della Rhoades and lived in the area all of her life. On August 24, 1946 in Walkerton she was married to Raymond McCarty, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Donald McCarty and Ronald McCarty, both of Grovertown; three grandchildren, Rick (Rebekah) McCarty of Plymouth, Jayme (Tim) Rose of Knox and Shawn (Staci) McCarty of Plymouth and five great-grandchildren, Shadow, Hannah, Erin, Charles and Ethan. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. Helen was a homemaker and attended Eagle Creek Church of Knox. She was a member of the Walkerton United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star of North Liberty, serving as the past and youngest Worthy Matron in Indiana and a past member of the Red Hat Club. She helped to found and served on the Board of Directors for the Starke County Historical Society, she was a past Boy Scout den mother and entertained troops for the USO and the elderly with her dulcimer. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. (Central Time) in Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. Burial will follow at the Fletcher Cemetery, Hamlet. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Eagle Creek Church.
