Knox - George A. Elder Sr., 78, passed away in his son's home in Knox on Sunday, January 12, 2014. George was born March 26, 1935 in Knox, IN to Doyle and Fern (Frete) Elder and lived in the area all of his life. On July 25, 1963 in Starke County, IN, he was married to the former Bonnie Singleton, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Danny Bowen; two great-grandsons, Jason Keen and Todd Keen Jr.; two sisters, Ruth and Lois; and brother, Joe. He is survived by six children, Monica (Eric) Keen of Plymouth, George (Monica) Elder Jr. of Knox, Della (Ernie) Keen of Knox, Mark (Becky) Elder of Knox, Dannell (Jessie) Escalante of Knox and Shantell (Justin) Hettinger of Monticello; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chet and Dennis Elder; and one sister, Margaret Waters. George was a former employee of Rockwell International and a U.S. Army veteran. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. (Central Time) in Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel with Pastor George Elder Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Fletcher Cemetery, Hamlet, where military graveside services will be conducted. Friends may call Wednesday after 11:00 a.m. CT until the time of services.
