Judith A. (Benwell) Weinkauff

Judith A. “Judy” (Benwell) Weinkauff passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend following an illness. Born on November 20, 1968, in Rock Island, Illinois, to Richard and Carol (Ferris) Benwell, Judy was 57 years old at the time of her passing. Judy spent most of her life in the area and was a graduate of Oregon-Davis High School. She was a former member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and was known for her warm heart, outgoing personality, and deep devotion to those she loved. Judy found joy in the simple pleasures of life and had a special love for the outdoors. Whether she was fishing, floating down the river, relaxing around a campfire, or tending to her garden, she felt most at home surrounded by nature. She also had an incredible love for animals, especially dogs, and cherished her beloved fur baby, Precious. Family was the center of Judy’s world. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with her family and friends and especially enjoyed cheering on her daughter and grandchildren at their sporting events. She never missed a chance to celebrate their accomplishments and create lasting memories with them. Judy also enjoyed watching crime shows on television, playing Pokémon Go, and keeping in touch with family and friends through her many phone conversations. Her laughter, caring nature, and gift for conversation will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Judy is survived by her loving daughter, Carol Huys; three grandchildren, Benjamin Monahan, Leonardo Huys, and Christien Huys; her mother, Carol Benwell; one sister, Dawn Benwell; three brothers, Richard, Stanley, and Charles Benwell; her aunt and uncle Joan Ferris and William Ferris; two nephews, Richard (Joe) Benwell and Michael Benwell; her stepmother, Linda Benwell; along with a host of dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Benwell. In accordance with Judy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A family-directed Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Though her time here was far too short, Judy leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and treasured memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
