Carroll L. Hickman

Carroll L. Hickman of Hobart, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on February 21, 2026. He was born on July 4, 1932, in Brems (Knox), Indiana, to Jesse R. Hickman and Clara C. (Sayers) Hickman. A proud graduate of Hamlet High School, Class of 1951, Carroll went on to build a life rooted in hard work, dedication, and love of family. He married the love of his life, Carolyn M. (Abel), on August 13, 1955, in Grovertown, Indiana. Carolyn preceded him in death in 2018, and not a day passed that he didn’t hold her memory close to his heart. Carroll was a devoted steel worker whose strong work ethic defined much of his life. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a proud member of Lake Station American Legion Post 100. His patriotism and commitment to his fellow veterans were sources of great pride. A simple man who found joy in life’s everyday blessings, Carroll dearly loved his family. His wife was truly the love of his life, and his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his greatest treasures. He enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels in his yard and took pride in still mowing his lawn well into his 90s! Carroll was also an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, faithfully cheering them on each season. He is survived by his two daughters, Janice Seabolt of Hobart, Indiana, and Sherry (Bob) Mayes of Carmichael, California; six grandchildren, Jeremy Seabolt (partner Angelle) of Portage, Indiana; Jeff (Jennifer) Seabolt of Lake Station, Indiana; Randy Seabolt II of Florida; Bobby (Samantha) Mayes of Carmichael, California; Danielle Bonilla (partner David) of Camptonville, California; and Amber Childress of Carmichael, California; fourteen great-grandchildren, Dakota DeBarge of Valparaiso, Indiana; Callie Seabolt and Noah Seabolt, both of Portage, Indiana; Dean Seabolt, Gabe Seabolt, and Julia Seabolt, all of Lake Station, Indiana; Brayden Hastings, Joshua Hunter, both of Lake Station, Indiana; Matthew Seabolt of Elkhart, Indiana; Tristan Bonilla and Isaiah Bonilla, both of Camptonville, California; Quentin Childress, Ruby Quintana, and Monty Martinez, all of Carmichael, California; two great-great-grandchildren, Aurora of Portage, Indiana, and Phoenix of Carmichael, California; and one sister, Shirley Gumz. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Carolyn; one great-grandson, Kale Seabolt; and ten siblings. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. CST at Rannells Funeral Home in Hamlet, Indiana, with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services will follow at Grovertown Cemetery. Carroll will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud veteran, and hardworking man who cherished the simple joys of life. His legacy of love, strength, and quiet dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
